What is a Port Wine stain?

Port Wine stains are birthmarks which may appear pale pink in colour during childhood, but later become darker with the skin texture often becoming lumpy and raised. The colour can vary from pale pink to dark blue or purple.

What can you do about it?

There is no reason to live with a port wine stain, the Ellipse intense pulsed light system enables us to remove port wine stains safely and effectively.

How does it work?

The light emitted by the Ellipse IPL system is absorbed by the blood that gives the port wine stain its colour. The blood then coagulates and the protein wall of the vessel is destroyed. After treatment the stain may appear bruised or slightly swollen, but this subsides gradually over the next few days. During the month following the treatment the stain will gradually become lighter.

How many treatments are needed?

It is very difficult to assess the number of treatments needed to completely remove the stain, but atleast six sessions will be necessary.
